Translation

Rabbi Ami and Rabbi Asi were standing

and moving from their places during the summer

from the sun to the shade,

from the place reached by the sun to a shaded place,

and

during the cold season they would move

from the shade,

from a place where there was shade,

to the sun,

to a place where there were rays of the warming sun. And they did this so that they would not be able to complain about dwelling in the Land of Israel.

Rabbi Hiyya bar Gamra would roll

and lie

in its dust

of the Land of Israel.

In order to fulfill that which

is stated

(Psalms 102):

“For Your servants have desired its stones, and its dust they favor.”

Rabbi Zeira said that Rabbi Yirmeya bar Abba said: In the generation in which the son of David comes, there will be accusation

there will be many informers and many who teach guilt

against Torah scholars,

who will stand against them.

And Rabbi Zeira added:

When I said it

, when I said this

before Shmuel—

he said

to me:

“A joining after a joining,”

decrees after decrees will occur on the eve of the coming of the Messiah.

And just as

is stated

by the prophet Isaiah [chapter 6], in his prophecy concerning what is destined to happen in the future, on the eve of the coming of the Messiah:

“And yet a tenth shall remain in it

[The Almighty will sift the wicked from His nation, the Israelite nation, through the fire of a terrible destruction, just as a refiner purifies silver from the refuse through the heat of fire, until only a chosen tenth of all Israel remains]”.

But this sifting will not suffice.

Rather,

“It shall return

, the Israelite nation, once again,

and shall become for burning”

[The Israelite nation will again return, after only a tenth of the nation remains from it, to refinement by fire, in order to purify it completely].

Rav Yosef taught: In exiles, and in exiles of exiles,

those who plunder, who will exile them from their land, and plunderers of plunderers, who will again exile them after they return from the exile—will then befall the Israelite nation.

And in order to conclude with a good matter, the Gemara brings a statement concerning the future praise of the Land of Israel:

Rav Hiyya bar Ashi said that Rav said: In the future, all the fruitless trees in the Land of Israel will produce fruit.

As is stated

(Joel 2):

“For the tree

[fruitless]

has borne its fruit.

The fig tree and the vine have given their yield.”

We have returned to you, chapter “The Two Judges of Decrees,” and the tractate Ketubot is concluded.
