Zevachim 51b — the Talmud in English

Give a base to the altar of an olah.

For all the bloods that are given on the outer altar, their remnants are poured onto its base.

And we explain:

If it enters your mind that it is as it is written,

that Scripture came to teach that the pouring of the remnants of the blood of the ruler’s sin-offering would be toward the base of the outer altar, this is difficult, for behold,

these

remnants,

why do I need a verse for the remnants

of these, to say that they are to be given outside and not inside?

Behold,

the beginning of the giving of the blood of the ruler’s sin-offering

outside

he performed them,

and since the giving of the blood was outside, why was it necessary to inform us that the pouring of the remnants should be done outside and not inside? And if so, it would have sufficed for Scripture to say that the remnants of the blood should be poured “toward the base of the altar.” This that it wrote “the olah,” why do I need it? Rather, to teach you concerning all the bloods that are given outside, that their remnants are poured toward the base of the outer altar.

And if you say

that the verse is not superfluous for this, because if “the olah” had not been written, I would have said

that I should reverse it completely,
