Translation

And did we not learn

in Tractate Terumot [5:2]:

A se'a of impure teruma that fell

and became mixed

into

the midst of

one hundred

se'a of produce

pure non-sacred produce,

and they have not yet been rendered susceptible to impurity through the coming of liquids upon them, [

Teruma grain in the measure of one se'a is nullified in a quantity of one hundred se'in of non-sacred grain. But the Sages enacted, because of the loss of the koen, that one must remove from the mixture grain in the measure of the teruma grain that became mixed in, and give it to the koen. And it is forbidden to eat from the entire mixture before raising the se'a.

Rabbi Eliezer and the Sages disagreed concerning the status of that se'a of teruma when the teruma that fell into the mixture was impure].

Rabbi Eliezer says: It shall be raised,

one se'a shall be removed from the mixture,

and

it

shall be left to rot.

And the reason of Rabbi Eliezer is: because

“I say”: it is the se'a that fell; it is the se'a that was raised.

That is, the law of relating to the se'a of grain that he raised from the mixture is like that of definite teruma. Therefore, he assigns it the law of impurity like that of impure teruma.

And the Sages say: It shall come up,

the impure teruma shall be nullified in the mixture,

and it shall be eaten

with the rest of the grain, which is non-sacred.

But, so that the impure teruma should not render the rest of the grain impure, it is necessary that he eat it in a manner in which there is no contact with water, such as that he eat the wheat when it is

in the form of nikudim,

dry, without liquids,

or parched grain,

for parched wheat too is dry, or

you shall knead

the dough of the flour

with fruit juices,

which are not among the seven liquids that render susceptible to impurity,

or the dough shall be divided

the dough

into doughs

small,

provided,

that is, and on condition that the division into small doughs be in such a manner

that in one place there should not be

a measure of

the size of an egg

of the impure teruma, which is the measure suitable for rendering food impure with food impurity.

And it was taught concerning it,

and we taught concerning this Mishna in a beraita:

those non-sacred produce

that remained after he raised the se'a from them,
