Translation

And afterward,

after the service of the inner bull and goat, he offers the

goat that is made outside.

Although it is an additional offering, it is not offered together with the other additional offerings, with the morning regular offering, because

it is stated concerning it [Numbers 29

in connection with it [Numbers 29]:

“one goat for a sin-offering

besides the sin-offering of the atonements.”

And that is to say, first the inner sin-offering goat is to be offered, and it is offered after the additional offerings, and only afterward is the outer goat offered.

And afterward

he offers the

ram and the ram of the people.

And afterward, the sacrificial portions of the sin-offering.

And afterward, the afternoon regular offering.

And the Gemara explains:

What is the reason of Rabbi Eliezer?

Why, according to his view, does he offer the additional offerings of Yom Kippur with the afternoon regular offering, unlike the other festivals, on which an additional offering is offered with the morning regular offering?

Because

he acts as it is written,

he follows the order written in the Torah.

He first performs

the offerings of the inner bull and goat

of the Torah of the priests,

in the Book of Leviticus.

And afterward

and then

he performs

he offers the additional offerings

of the Book of the Census [

in the portion of Pinchas in the Book of Numbers.

And

the reason of

Rabbi Akiva is

as he teaches the reason concerning the additional offerings of the festivals [Numbers 28

with regard to the additional offerings of the Festivals [Numbers 28]:

“besides the morning burnt-offering, which is for the regular burnt-offering.”

It follows, then, that the additional offerings

he performs them with the morning regular offering.

And from here it is learned with regard to the additional offerings of Yom Kippur.

And the Gemara returns to explain the view of Rabbi Eliezer:

And Rabbi Eliezer,

it is indeed understood that he disagrees with Rabbi Akiva and does not derive the additional offering of Yom Kippur from the other festivals, but follows the order of the verses concerning Yom Kippur.

But

this “besides the sin-offering of the atonements,”

from which Rabbi Akiva expounded that the outer goat is to precede the ram and the ram of the people

what does he do with it?

For this verse is stated concerning Yom Kippur itself, and not concerning the other festivals.

And we answer:

That

verse

is needed for him

to say:

For that which this

inner goat

atones for, this

outer goat

atones.

And the Gemara continues to bring the words of the Tosefta:

Rabbi Judah says in his name

of Rabbi Akiva:

One

of the seven lambs

is offered with the morning regular offering, and six

lambs are offered

with the afternoon regular offering.

Rabbi Eleazar son of Rabbi Shimon says in his name

of Rabbi Akiva:

Six

lambs

are offered with the morning regular offering, and one with the afternoon regular offering.

And the Gemara explains:

What is the reason of the Sages,

Rabbi Judah and Rabbi Eleazar son of Rabbi Shimon, in the name of Rabbi Akiva, who divide the offering of the seven lambs, offering them both with the morning regular offering and with the evening regular offering?

Because

two verses are written,

from which it is possible to learn when the additional offerings are offered on Yom Kippur:

It is written

in the additional offerings of the appointed times,

“besides the morning burnt-offering,”

which teaches that the additional offerings are to be offered after the morning regular offering, and from here it is also to be learned with regard to Yom Kippur.

And on the other hand

it is written

on Yom Kippur [Leviticus 16]

“and he shall go out and perform his burnt-offering.”

Therefore, he performs

part

of them here, and

part

of them here.

And

over what do they disagree?

Rabbi Judah holds: he performs

only

one

of the lambs with the morning regular offering,

as it is written, “besides the morning burnt-offering.”

And afterward he performs the service of the day,

and he does not now offer six lambs—

perhaps the High Priest will become weak,

and it will be difficult for him to continue with the service of the day, in which the principal atonement is performed.

And Rabbi Eleazar son of Rabbi Shimon holds: since he has begun

with the additional offerings,

he performs six, lest he be negligent

and not perform them afterward.

And as for your concern lest the High Priest become weak from performing the six lambs in the morning, there is no concern for this,

for with regard to the service of the day—

he is diligent.

And the Gemara explains the law of the communal ram:

For everyone,

Rabbi Eliezer and Rabbi Akiva,

at any rate—

only

one ram

of the community

he

offers.

In accordance with whom—

in accordance with Rabbi.

For it was taught in a baraita: Rabbi says: The one ram mentioned here,

in the portion of Aharei Mot, in the order of the service of Yom Kippur,

is

that same ram

mentioned in the Book of the Census,

in the passage concerning the additional offerings of Yom Kippur.

Rabbi Eleazar son of Rabbi Shimon says: They are two rams: one mentioned here, and one mentioned in the Book of the Census.

What is the reason of Rabbi?

For it is written

both here and in the Book of the Census, “one ram,”

one.”

And “one” is a superfluous verse, to teach you that the intention of the verse is only one ram.

And Rabbi Eleazar son of Rabbi Shimon: What does “one” mean—

that he should bring a ram

special,

choice

from his flock.

And Rabbi—

he derives it

for the choicest of his flock in all offerings

from “the choicest of your vows.” [

your vows. Deuteronomy 12]

And Rabbi Eleazar son of Rabbi Shimon: one

verse concerning the choicest is

in

offerings

of obligation, and one

in offerings

of freewill.

And both are necessary

to teach us the law of the choicest concerning both, since there is room to say that the freewill offering must be choice so that it will be accepted favorably, and there is room to say that the obligatory offering must be choice so that he will properly fulfill his obligation.

We learned in the Mishna:

He sanctified his hands and his feet.

The Sages taught: [

Leviticus 16]

“And Aaron shall come into the Tent of Meeting”—

Why does he come?

To remove the pan and the censer.
