.

Translation
Rabbi Yosei of Tzippori expounded: Abba Elijah [
Elijah, my beloved and my great one]
is exacting.
For he was angry with Ahab and said: “As the Lord lives, there shall be neither dew nor rain during these years.”
Elijah was accustomed
to
come to him [
to come to Rabbi Yosei’s study hall] every day.
After Rabbi Yosei expounded in this manner,
he concealed himself from him for three days [
Elijah concealed himself from him for three days]—
and he did not come [
to him].
When he came [
when Elijah finally came, after three days],
Rabbi Yosei said to him
:
Why did my master not come [
why have you not come until now]?
He said to him: You called me exacting [
because you called me exacting]!
He said to him: Here is evidence before us [
here is proof before us]
that my master is exacting [
that you are exacting], for you took offense at my saying this about you and did not come to me for three days!
“And nothing from the proscription shall cleave to your hand.”
For
as long as wicked people are in the world, there is wrath in the world, etc.
Who are the wicked people?
Rav Yosef said: Thieves.
Those who steal from the proscription.
The Sages taught: When a wicked person comes into the world —
wrath comes into the world. As it is stated: “When a wicked person comes, contempt also comes, and with
shame, disgrace.”
A wicked person is removed from the world—good comes into the world. As it is stated: “When the wicked perish, there is jubilation.”
A righteous person departs from the world—evil comes into the world. As it is stated: “The righteous man has perished, and no one takes it to heart; and men of kindness are gathered away, with no one understanding, for the righteous man is gathered away because of the evil.” “Because of the evil”—before the evil comes, “the righteous man is gathered away.” Thus, after he dies, the evil comes.
A righteous person comes into the world—
good comes into the world,
and the evil ceases.
As it is stated
when Noah was born:
“This one will comfort us from our deeds and from the toil of our hands.”
We shall return to you, chapter “All of Israel have a share,” and the tractate Sanhedrin is concluded
