Translation
And the Gemara raises an objection:
If so,
a woman who inherits two tribes must marry a man whose father is from the tribe of her father, and whose mother is from the tribe of her mother; why, then, is it stated in the Torah, “to one of the family of the tribe of her father”",
is this “to one of the family of the tribe of her father and her mother” needed?
And the Gemara answers:
If it were written thus, I would have said even the opposite,
that his father is from the tribe of her mother and his mother is from the tribe of her father,
it teaches us,
that we require him to be related after the tribe of her father, that is, his father's tribe must be like her father's tribe; and from what is written, “and it shall not pass over,” we also infer that his mother, too, must be from the tribe of her mother. So far.
The Gemara explains that although we established the verses, “And an inheritance shall not pass over from tribe to tribe,” and “And an inheritance shall not pass over ... to another tribe,” as referring to the passing over through the son, and that one transgresses two prohibitions on account of it, nevertheless we still find baraitot that
teach
the first verse
in
the
transfer
of the inheritance through the inheritance of
the son, and teaches
the second verse
in
the
transfer
of the inheritance through the inheritance of
the husband.
For it was taught in a baraita:
“And an inheritance shall not pass over to the Children of Israel from tribe to tribe,” it speaks
of the
transfer
of the inheritance through the inheritance of
the son.
And we examined it:
You say that it is in the transfer through the son, or is it only in the
transfer
of the
inheritance through the inheritance of
the husband?
Rather,
when it says, “And an inheritance shall not pass over from tribe to another tribe,” it is stated with regard to the transfer through the husband
And if so,
what do I establish, “And an inheritance shall not pass over to the Children of Israel from tribe to tribe”? It speaks of the transfer through the son.
And he does not find it satisfactory to say that the verse changed [its wording] in order that one should transgress two prohibitions on account of it, as above, since wherever there is something to expound, we expound it, and we do not establish it as redundant prohibitions.
